The Romluan Civil War is over. And victory for the Romulan Empire exists in the fact that the Empire is still intact with Reman forces no longer keeping Romulus under siege. A peaceful settlement, negotiated by Federation, Tholian, and Klingon diplomats has lead to a cessation of hostilities and dissolution of the Reman Axis.
This is not to say that the Remans are no longer a threat.
Just that greater threats now exist in the region. And with the hostilities between the Romulans and the Federation at an end, it is time for these forces to combine their efforts to deal with aggressors in the quadrant.
The warlike Ixitan, attacking both Romulan and Reman positions in Romulan space and advancing on the Federation border. The treacherous Vakluran - a Vulcan offshoot species who conquer worlds using an elaborate network of spies, and assassins and a type of "protection racket" to force other systems into their alliance. And the constantly warring Trogordians and N'Augi - fighting over their vastly differing ideologies.
All pose a threat to regional peace. And to the Federation.
Something must be done to maintain the fragile peace.
And that is where Starbase Magellan, under Commodore Michael Grant, comes in. And, as many different ships come and go from Magellan, located at the confluence of the Romulan/Klingon border in deep space beyond Federation territory, a host of challenges await the officers and crews of any vessels who make there way to the station; not to mention the adventures to be found on the new frontier starbase, it's self.
And several of those ships find themselves assigned to dangerous missions, dealing with the local threats. The USS Legacy, USS Cavalier, USS Pioneer, USS Cyclone, USS Japan and the USS Avenger routinely find themselves facing threats the Federation was unaware of just a year ago.
Then there is Whiteout Station. A science station on a nearby planet of frozen-over ice and valuable minerals. Surrounded by rogues, scoundrels and pirates, the crew of Whiteout Station survive in a very inhospitable corner of the Final Frontier.
